Ideas Magazine Trunk Show {See what I saw}

On the 14th of July I treated myself and my dear friend Karlien {The One K} to a walk through the first Ideas Craft & Décor Trunk Show at the Simondium Country Lodge on the R45, between Paarl and Franschhoek. The perfect place to see what the creative minds and entrepreneurs are up to and put on display for the dedicated DIY ladies & gents. A lovely intimate event! Here are a few of my highlights, creative corners and beautiful ideas that I simply couldn't resist blogging about!

Time for a Cup of...{Soup}

It’s time for a Cup of…soup! Yes, thick and creamy, but healthy! I played around with a few easy-to-find ingredients – some of them you might have in your kitchen, other you’ll quickly have to pop into Pick n Pay to get the necessary goodies!

I have two favourite soup recipes: Butternut soup and Peas soup. Last winter I think I overindulged a bit on the butternut side, so this winter I’ll start with a Peas Soup Recipe!

{Kraakvars} Koljander & Appelkoos

Daar is niks so lekker soos om met vars produkte te kook nie! Vandag se geure wat in die KoekiesEnCream kombuis rond sweef is: Koljander, kraakvars-appelkoos en sappige suurlemoen! Na al die sware etes oor die fees seisoen het ek besluit op 'n wit vleis wat ek mooi en geurig kan tooi met al die bogenoemde geure.

{DIY} Quick Chakalaka Chicken

Today was our last day of our "December holiday" and what a busy day! Packing, cleaning, driving, unpacking, cleaning and then...but wait, what's for dinner? And this - I promise you - was the easiest and least amount of effort I could come up with, I made a quick Chakalaka Chicken "flatty" - something I think everyone should have on standby in their refrigerator. I simply basted the Chicken Flatty with the pre-made Chakalaka sauce, lined a baking tray with foil - shiny side inwards - this way you direct the heat towards the chicken - place it in the oven at 200*C for about 45 minutes. {I also made a foil cover/lid for the chicken} After 45 minutes remove the foil cover/lid and place it back in the oven until the basting sauce is sticky and the chicken has a lovely brownish caramelised colour. A quick and easy dinner for the day before it's back to reality!

{Snoek}Braai

KoekiesEnCream {vakansie}kos wenke! Daar is min Klein {Brakrivier} genotjies in die lewe soos om snoek te braai, laat middag, net voor die son sak, met ‘n tikkie son op die lyf en ‘n truitjie vir die koeligheid om die vuur!

Miskien is daar een lekkerder ding…die sousie wat oor die snoek gesmeer word! Vir ons familie is dit natuurlik sonder twyfel ‘n sousie met Appelkoos konfyt as hoofbestandeel.

{Kersfees om die tafel} Dekor

Kersete in ons huis is altyd 'n baie groot 'affêre', soos hulle sê. Met Ouma wat kom kuier en met al die kuikens onder een dak was die tafel gedek en reg vir die smaaklike ete waarvoor ons sou aansit later die aand. Hierdie jaar het ons oud en nuut gekombineer - enige iets van vintage plekmatjies, wit gespuite draad sterre, 'n doily gehekelde tafeldoek tot laser gesnyde hout figuurtjies. Krap bietjie in die huis rond, daar is altyd ietsie ouds en nuuts om te inkorporeer in jou dekor - dit maak die tafel net soveel interessanter - kyk gerus! {Wenk: Onthou jou dekor moet jou kos komplimenteer - ons het oud en nuut op ons spyskaart verteenwoordig}

Baby {Animal} Mobile

I just recently made lovely cupcakes for my sister-in-law's babyshower {which you can view here: Baby Animals for a Baby Shower} and came across some cute baby felt animal mobile pictures online. So, of course, I couldn't resist trying to make some myself! They are really easy to cut out and stitch together - I found a few animal designs online and got a little creative myself with a few of the colors. Felt is probably the best material to use for these DIY cuties, because it's strong and there is no need to seem or burn the edges of the material. AND if you have kids, want to give it as a Christmas gift or you are an expecting mother yourself, then this is a perfect little project to take on!

Voorletter Fees!

Kersfees is 'n FEES en nog meer so as jy dit saam met vriende en familie kan vier! Hier is 'n baie eenvoudige DIY idee om jou Kersfeestafel af te rond deur vir elkeen van jou vriende, familie of gaste 'n plekaanwysertjie te maak - 'n Soetkoekie met hul voorletter op! Hier kan jy natuurlik rondspeel met jou eie kleure, linte en houertjies/sakkies. In plaas daarvan om naamkaartjies te skryf kan jy hierdie soetkoekie, met hul voorletter op, as 'n dankie-sê geskenkie op die tafel sit, aan die kersboom hang of self as deel van jou dekor gebruik.  

Beads & Bows

Flink en vinnig: Dit is vir my een van die lekkerste tydverdrywe om net bietjie rond te speel met nuwe idees. Somtyds kan dit so eenvoudig wees soos om 'n kolwyntjie te versier of ietsie nuuts te probeer bak. Vir 'n vinnige teetyd-breukie het mens nie altyd tyd om jou kolwyntjies te versier nie, maar daar is altyd 'n vinnige oplossing - met al die mooi versierkraletjies, hartjies en strukkies wat mens nou klaargemaak in die winkels kan koop, is dit nou so eenvoudig om 'n kolwyntjie bietjie op te kikker.

Espresso Red Velvet Cupcakes!

At KoekiesEnCream it's all about detail, detail and more detail. Whether it is in the taste of the cupcake, the decorative fondant detail or simply the cup or wrapping that the cupcake is delivered in. But what happens if you are at home and you don't necessarily have cute or pretty cupcake wrappers to serve your cupcakes in...? It's as simple as either going onto our blog and following the DIY Cupcake Wrapper Step-by-step or getting creative with what you have in your own kitchen that you can use: vintage cups, doilies or even gingerbread man wax paper can do the trick!

I discovered the cutest black espresso cups in my kitchen that I bought more than 3 years ago and just couldn't resist using them for this shoot!

Na afloop van 'n Babatee waarvoor ek onlangs kolwyntjies gebak het, het KoekiesEnCream vandag besluit om bietjie kreatief te raak buite die kombuis! Omdat ek so baie met koekie-drukkertjies werk het ek hierdie vormpies geneem en gekyk waar anders in die huis 'n mens jou vormpies kan gebruik.
